Charles A. Crabtree

February 28, 1934 ~ June 25, 2017 (age 83) 83 Years Old

Anderson- Charles A. Crabtree, 83, finished his journey and went home to be with his Lord, whom he served faithfully as a charter member and an Ordained Deacon of Mt. Olive Free Will Baptist Church for 54 years on Sunday morning, June 25, 2017 at the Community Hospital in Anderson following a brief illness.  He also served the church as a Song Leader, Chairman of the Trustees and adult Sunday School Teacher.  Devoted to his family whom he loved mightily, Charles also loved fishing, gardening and the Chicago Cubs. He was born on February 28, 1934, in Armathwaite, Tennessee, the son of James Wesley and Nancy Ann (Terry) Crabtree.

                Charles attended Armathwaite city schools and later married the love of his life, Norma (Ausmus) on, April 3, 1954, in Armathwaite, and she survives.  Mr. Crabtree had worked in the cleaning room of Interstate Casting in Indianapolis for 10 years prior to his retirement in 1995, before that, he had worked for Frank Foundry in Muncie for 31 years in the maintenance dept.  

                Besides his wife of 63 years, Norma he is survived by two daughters, Tamara Marie Sluss (husband-Mark), Marion and Elizabeth Ann Purcell (husband-Gary), Claksville, Tennessee; two sons, Wendell Crabtree (wife-Meleny), Indianapolis and Charles Brent Crabtree (wife-Angela), Muncie; eight       grandchildren; thirteen great grandchildren;  one sister, Louise Morris, Muncie; several nieces and nephews; a whole host of friends.

                He is preceded in death by his daughter, Mata Jean Crabtree in 1957; one grandson, Shane Crabtree in 2012; his parents; three sisters, Ova Sheppard, Opal Beaty and Mary Hall; three brothers, Johnnie, Doc and Howard.

                Funeral services will be held on Thursday, June 29, 2017, 1:00 P.M. at the Mt. Olive Free Will Baptist Church 7500 N. Wheeling, Muncie, IN 47304, with Pastor James O. McCowan and Rev. James E. Sluss officiating.  Burial will follow at the Jones Cemetery.  Arrangements are being handled by the Parson Mortuary.

                Friends may call at the Mt. Olive Free Will Baptist Church on Thursday, June 29, 2017, from 11:00 A.M. until service time.

                Memorial contributions may be made to the Mt. Olive Free Will Baptist Church.
