Muncie- Dorothy G.(Graham) Dixon, 94, passed away early Wednesday morning, January 25, 2017, at Indiana University Ball Memorial Hospital following an extended illness. She was born on June 13, 1922,in Muncie to Loren and Rachel (Rector) Graham.
Dorothy is a graduate of Harrison Township High School. After graduation she worked in downtown Muncie as a cashier at the Kroger grocery store and would later go on to marry the love of her life Cleo B. Dixon with whom she spent 52 wonderful years until his passing in February 2000. In the early 70’s Cleo and Dorothy purchased Dixons’ IGA in Redkey, where they were known far and wide for their excellent bakery and specialty meats. Dorothy was most well known for her pies, which were enjoyed by thousands throughout the years. Dorothy became an accomplished plaster artist and operated a studio offering art classes with her husband following retirement.
Left to mourn the loss of Dorothy are her three daughters; Pamela DeHart (companion Gary Lambert) of Muncie, Cynthia Noftz (Arthur) of Aliquippa, PA, Sheila Cannon (James) of Muncie, her grandchildren; Brian Hollars (Kelly), Michael Dorste (Diane), Todd Dorste (Christi), Christine Brown (Andy), and Christine Koch (David), her 8 great grandchildren, many special nieces and nephews: Betty Jane Nelson, Cleo Ron Nelson and Alfretta Ellis; and a sister-in-law Pat Graham. Alinda Young who was like a daughter, Krista Ford a special friend and neighbor and “Rosie” her faithful feline companion.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents Loren and Rachel Graham, her loving husband Cleo Dixon, brother Henry Graham, sister Garnet Graham, an infant brother Ralph Graham and her son-in-law Donald Dehart.
The family wishes to extend a special thanks to the in-home health care providers who gave Dorothy all the love, care, and friendship they had to offer. Also a special thanks to the staff at Ball Memorial Hospital for their excellent care and kindness.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 P.M, Saturday January 28, 2017, at Parson Mortuary with Pastor Jason Jones officiating. Burial will follow at Elm Ridge Cemetery.
Friends may call at Parson Mortuary from 4:00 P.M to 7:00 P.M on Friday, January 27, 2017, and one hour prior to service.
