Muncie-Garland M. Barton, 58, passed away Saturday December 2, 2017, at the Indiana University Health Ball Memorial Hospital following an extended illness. He was born on March 19, 1959 in Muncie, the son of James and Lizzie Evalee (Morgan) Barton.
Garland is a 1977 graduate of Wesdel High School and later married the love of his life Inez (Miller) Barton on October 5, 1985 in Muncie. Mr. Barton had worked for Jerry’s Stadium Marathon and several Clark Oil stations years ago and eventually became a Correctional Officer for the Pendleton Correctional Industrial Facility having served them for 20 years prior to his disability in 2009. He enjoyed hunting; working on cars, gun smithing, riding motorcycles and was even a Culinary Chemist of sorts inventing new taste creations in his kitchen. Garland was also known to be a huge Star Trek Fan.
Besides his wife of 32 years, Inez, he is survived by their son, Cody Barton, Yorktown; three sisters, Lavella Reynolds and Marsha Damron, both of Muncie and Judy Kreager (husband-Bud), Punta Gorda, Florida; one sister-in-law, Diana Reynolds, Ft. Recovery, Ohio; many nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Othie Reynolds, Elmer Reynolds and Wayne Barton; one sister, Garnet Cunningham; one sister-in-law, Carolyn Barton; one brother-in-law, Ronald Damron.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, December 6, 2017, 11:00 A.M. at the Bethel United Church of Christ 123110 W. Bethel, Muncie, IN 47304 with Pastor Larry Mitchell officiating. Burial will follow at the Bethel Cemetery.
Friends may call at the Parson Mortuary on Tuesday evening, December 5, 2017, from 4:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. and again on Wednesday morning December 6, 2017 from 10:00 A.M. until service time.
