Jerome J. Thompson, 89, passed away Friday, February 5, 2016 at Westminster Village in Muncie, Indiana. He was born September 15, 1926, in Muncie, the son of Jerome Kirby Thompson, and Hattie B. (Stephenson) Thompson.
Mr. Thompson joined the Army at the age of 17 and served until the end of World War II. When the Army split, Jerome went with the Air Force and served for twenty-three years, having served during the Korean War and Viet Nam. When stationed in Muncie he opened the first recruiting office on Main Street, and created the first Armed Forces Day Parade in Muncie.
He traveled with his family overseas and stateside until retiring in 1966 to Muncie, where he then worked for Hardesty Moving and Storage for twenty-two years before retiring.
Surviving are his children, Suzie Clark (husband, Brian), San Antonio, Texas, Dee Meadows (husband, Bill), Muncie, Indiana, Cheri Sites (husband, Randy), Richmond,
Indiana, Hondo Thompson (wife, Les), Bloomington, Indiana, and Gunner Thompson, Ft. Myers, Florida; eleven grandchildren; and sixteen great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Connie; his parents, Jerome Thompson, I, and Hattie Bea Thompson Lewis; and his siblings, William Thompson, Evelyn Cook, Marietta Burk, Howard Thompson and Leroy Thompson.
Services will be 1:00 p.m. Friday, February 12, 2016 at Parson Mortuary with Pastor
Kevin Reed officiating. Entombment will follow in Elm Ridge Mausoleum where military rites will be conducted by the Air Force and the Veterans of Delaware County Honor Guard.
The family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m. until service time at 1:00 p.m. on Friday at the mortuary.
