Mable (Barrett) Hammond

April 21, 1939 ~ October 8, 2015 (age 76) 76 Years Old

            Muncie- Mable Hammond, 76, passed away Thursday morning, October 8, 2015 at her residence following a brief illness.  She was born on April 21, 1939 in Stearns, Kentucky, the daughter of Joe and Agnes Barrett.

            Ms. Hammond attended Stearns City Schools and later Muncie City Schools.  She had worked for K Mart for 21 years prior retirement in 1992 having served in various positions through out the store.  Mable would volunteer or donate money to the cancer association, make a wish foundation, Special Olympics of Indiana, ARF (Animal Rescue Fund) and the election polls.  Ms. Hammond also enjoyed plants and flowers.  She was a member of the Westside Baptist Church.

            Survivors include two daughters, Debbie Schwebach (husband-Sam), Derby, Kansas and Sherrell Johnston (husband-James), New Castle; six grandchildren, Shannon Field(wife-Stephanie), Jeremy Hammond (wife-Tammi), Shasta Williams(husband-Marvin), Ashley Silvey(husband-Justin), Gretchen Fields(husband-Aaron) and Karrena Johnston; ten great grandchildren; two sisters, Mildred Duncan and Rose Fisher, both of Muncie; several nieces and nephews; special friends, Scott Bright, Paulette, Shirley, Becky, ARF-Gale Workman and all her friends at Osborn’s.

            She is preceded in death by one daughter, Penny Sue Hammond in 2002; one son, Charles R. Hammond, Jr: in 2011; her parents; eight siblings; her former spouse, Charles Hammond, Sr.

            Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, October 14, 2015, 1:00 P.M. at the Parson Mortuary with Pastor Larry Waters officiating.  Burial will follow at the Beech Grove Cemetery.

            Friends may call at the Parson Mortuary on Tuesday, October 13, 2015, from 5:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. and again on Wednesday, October the 14, 2015 from 12:00 P.M. until service time.

            Memorial contributions may be made to charity of the donor’s choice.
