Malcom (Gene) Essex

September 14, 1945 ~ May 11, 2016 (age 70) 70 Years Old

            Muncie- Malcom (Gene) Essex, 70, passed away, Wednesday morning, May 11, 2016, at his residence following an extended illness.  He was born on September 14, 1945, in Chattanooga, Tennessee, the son of J.B. and Della (Knight) Essex.

            Gene is a 1963 graduate of Muncie Central High School and briefly attended Xavier University in Cincinnati, Ohio, later, he married the love of his life, Elizabeth (Leicht) Essex on October 24, 1963 in Eaton and she survives.  Mr. Essex had driven a truck for 16 years serving the N.G. Gilbert Company of Yorktown and then had served the Service America Vending Company now known as Canteen and finally retired in 2000 from the Overhead Door Company as the Plant Manager.  He enjoyed playing Euchre at the Ross’s and the Forest Park Senior Centers was an avid fisherman and professional tinkerer doing various projects in the garage.  Family times were very precious to him.  Gene was a member of the Teamsters Union and attended the Riverview Church of the Nazarene.

            Besides his wife of 52 years, Elizabeth, he is survived by one daughter, Benita Young (Husband-Stacey), Selma; three grandchildren, Kaitie Heatherly (Companion-Trent Snyder), Winchester, Jessica Pearson (husband-Christopher), Eaton and Nathaniel Young, Selma; two great grandchildren, Michael and Aliana Heatherly; two sisters, Bertha (Bert) Gregory (husband-Roger) and Linda Cravens, both of Muncie; two brothers, Roscoe Essex and Tim Essex (wife-Iris), both of Gaston; several nieces and nephews.

            He is preceded in death by one daughter, Rebecca Essex in 2014; his parents; two sisters, Carolyn and Helen; two brothers, Bill and Jimmy.

            Funeral services will be held on Monday, May 16, 2016, 1:00 P.M. at the Parson Mortuary with Pastor David Shipman officiating.  Burial to follow at the Gardens of Memory Cemetery north of Muncie.

            Friends may call at the Parson Mortuary on Monday, May 16, 2016, from 11:00 A.M. until service time.

            Memorial contributions may be made to Cancer Services of East Central Indiana, Inc. (Little Red Door) 2311 W. Jackson St. Muncie, IN 47303.
