Mark D. Osterman

November 30, 1956 ~ May 23, 2017 (age 60) 60 Years Old

                Muncie-Mark D. Osterman, 60, passed away Tuesday morning, May 23, 2017, at his residence following an extended illness.  He was born on November 30, 1956, in Muncie, the son of Don and June (Choate) Osterman.

                Mark is a 1975 graduate of Muncie Central High School and later graduated with a Doctorate in Juris Prudence from the Thomas M. Cooley School of Law in Lansing Michigan.  Mark proudly served the U.S. Army as a Radio Operator having been stationed in Alaska with Company A, 172 Division of the SPT Battalion FORSCOM Group.  On June 12, 1998 he married Melanie (Elder) Osterman and she survives.

Mr. Osterman had worked as a Public defender for the State of Alaska Office of Public Advocates.  He has been an attorney since 1990.  Mark is a member of the Alaska and Michigan Bar Associations, a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church where he was considered a pillar of the congregation and the Secretary.  Mr. Osterman also was a member of the Central Emergency Services Board of Soldotna, Alaska, enjoyed his Amateur Ham Radio and was a seminary student.

                Along with  his wife of nineteen years, Melanie, he is survived by two daughters, Rebekah Osterman , Farmington Hills, Michigan and Rachel Saddler (husband-Cory) Crestview, Florida; two sons, Martin Osterman, Anderson and Thomas Osterman, Fairbanks, Alaska; his father, Don Osterman, Muncie;  one sister, Ruth Lipman (husband- Kenneth) Pasadena, Maryland; one brother, Paul Osterman (wife-Taeko), Grand Prairie, Texas; several nieces and nephews.

                He is preceded in death by his mother and late wife Barbara (Keyman) Osterman in 1996.

                Funeral services will be held on Saturday, May 27, 2017, 10:00 A.M. at the Parson Mortuary with Pastor Tim Pederson officiating.  Burial will follow on Tuesday, May 30, 2017, 2:30 P.M. at Ft. Custer National Cemetery in Agusta, Michigan.  Military Honors will be rendered at the cemetery by Ft. Custer National Cemetery Honor Guard.

                No visitation is scheduled.
