MUNCIE – Mary Alice Cummings, 74, Muncie, Indiana, passed away Monday, June 19, 2017 at her residence.

Mary was born August 27, 1942 in New Castle, Indiana, the daughter of the late Eugene H. and Edith (Chance) Doll.  Mary was raised in Dublin, Indiana, where her parents operated a grocery store on U.S. 40.  She came to Ball State in 1960 and married Buck Cummings in 1961.  They raised two children, Bret and Lisa.  Mary enjoyed a teaching career at North View Elementary School for 42 years and retired in 2005.  Before her illness she volunteered for her church, Garden at Gethsemane, North View Elementary, and the Muncie Retired Teachers Association.  She was a member of Alpha Iota chapter of Kappa Kappa Sigma and was blessed by the concern and love of her sorority sisters.  She had enjoyed line dancing, square dancing, round dancing, Zumba gold, and walking.  Her main source of entertainment was going out to eat with her breakfast buddies.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Buck Cummings; her parents; and her daughter, Lisa Speicher.

Mary is survived by her son, Bret Cummings (Robin), Muncie; sisters, Eugina Mills, Richmond, IN; Martha Sborov (Dave), Pleasanton, CA; Ruth Fields (Daryl), Pershing, IN; four grandchildren, Jacob and Joshua Cummings, Kasey and Audree Speicher; two step grandchildren, Kyle and Kris Shroyer; three step great-grandchildren, Honesty, Ethan, and Gabriel Shroyer; several nieces and nephews, and special friend Jack Robinson.

According to Mary’s wishes there will be no calling, funeral, or graveside services.  Her wish is that you continue to enjoy your family and friends in memory of Mary Alice just as she constantly enjoyed happy times with her family, friends, and neighbors throughout her lifetime.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to I.U.B.M.H Hospice for her exemplary care through her time spent with hospice.
