Welcome to the memorial page for

Melanie Lee Riggin

June 11, 1944 ~ December 14, 2017 (age 73) 73 Years Old

Melanie Lee Riggin crossed over to be with her Heavenly Father at 6:45 a.m., Thursday December 14, 2017.  Melanie was born on June 11, 1944, the first daughter to her proud parents, Carl and Treva (Miser) Riggin.  Melanie lived her full life in Delaware County.  She attended Central Michigan University and was a graduate of Ball State University with her Bachelors and Masters degrees.  Melanie dedicated her life to a rewarding career as a Special Education teacher for the Muncie Community Schools for 24 years.

After retiring from teaching, Melanie, with a sense of servant leadership, created “Nana and Pappy’s Farm” on the grounds of the Riggin homestead, and within its bounds, operated a respite program; and more recently, she provided a safe nurturing home as caregiver to special family friend, Matt Blake.

Melanie led her life by the values she held and one can find countless examples of helping others at all ages and stages of her life.  Her respect and love of life extended to animals as well.  Melanie was active in her community and involved with many organizations, including volunteering for the Alpha Center for 22 years, participating in The Road to Redemption Program, Kids Hope of Redkey and the former Washington Street Singers, as well as being a long-time member of The ECI Emmaus Community.

Above all, Melanie loved the Lord and claimed it her personal mission to bear witness and bring others to the calm assurance of God’s love and promise of life everlasting.  Melanie was an active member of the First Brethren Church of Oakville at the time of her passing.  The memory of her angelic voice singing praises will be remembered within the walls of every church she ever attended.

Melanie is preceded in death by her parents, Carl and Treva; brother, Lance; her grandparents and several aunts and uncles.  She will be joined at Heavens gate by many tails wagging and meows of welcome from all the pets fortunate enough to have been hers over the years.

Melanie is survived by her foster son, Tyler; brother, Kent (Judy); sister Sherry; sister-in-law Ruth Anna; nephews Kris, Kelly (Debra), Mitch (Korina) and Nathan; nieces Lori, Leanne and Rachel; great nephews Kolt, John and Justin; great nieces Maggie, Allie, Karlee and Nicole.  She is also survived by four great-great nephews/nieces and other Riggin family members.

Along with these, Melanie is survived by countless friends, who have been a part of her journey for many years including soul sisters, Beth B, Cinda, Linda R, Saundra, Linda G, Robin, Nancy, Diane, Barb, Beth M, Sharon & Nicole and Sharon R.
