Patricia "Pat" K (Achtenhagen) Brinkman

October 23, 1921 ~ May 13, 2016 (age 94) 94 Years Old

Muncie- Patricia K. Brinkman, 94, passed away peacefully May 13, 2016 in Muncie, IN.  Pat is the daughter of the late Arnold and Anne Achtenhagen.  Pat was born in Sheboygan Falls, WI on Oct 23, 1921.  Pat earned her nursing degree from Milwaukee Lutheran School of Nursing; upon graduation, Pat enlisted in the Army Air Force, earning the rank of 1st Lieutenant.  While stationed at Kelly Field, San Antonio, TX, Pat met and wed her lifelong partner, and fellow World War II veteran Franklyn D Brinkman.  Pat was proud of her military service and enjoyed her friends at American Legions in Oscoda, MI and Bonita Springs, FL.

Pat worked at Ball Memorial Hospital as a Registered Nurse until her retirement.  A life-long learner and nursing advocate, Pat endowed the Patricia K and Franklyn D Brinkman Sr. Nursing scholarship.  The scholarship is awarded to Delaware County nursing students enrolled in Ball State University School of Nursing. 

Upon retirement, Pat enjoyed wintering in Bonita Springs, FL and spending summers at the family cottage in Oscoda, MI.  Pat’s favorite activities included celebrating holidays and special events with her children and grandchildren; additionally, she enjoyed tailgating at the Ball State University football games.

Pat is survived by six children, Patricia A Brinkman, Muncie, Carole DeHaven (Gary), West Lafayette, IN, Karen Pickering, Muncie, Franklyn D Brinkman Jr, Muncie, Tony (Ellen) Brinkman, Muncie, Brian (Tina) Brinkman, Muncie; 7 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Franklyn D Brinkman in February, 2010 and granddaughter Alyxandra Rose in 2010.

Private services will be held at Parson Mortuary, Muncie.  Military Honors will be performed at Pat’s final resting place in the Marion National Cemetery.    In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Patricia K and Franklyn D Brinkman Sr. Nursing scholarship, c/o The Community Foundation of Muncie, PO 807, Muncie, IN 47308.
