Billy Sharp Obituary

Billy F. Sharp, 72, of Muncie, Indiana, passed away, Thursday, March 15, 2018 at IU Health Ball Memorial Hospital.

He was born April 24, 1945 in Oneida, Tennessee, the son of the late Eric and Pearl Mae Sharp.  Billy was a 1964 graduate of Oneida High School, after graduating he attended Oak Ridge Community College and studied mechanical drafting.  He and his wife, Sherry, owned and operated “Sharp’s Things You Need” in Muncie for over 20 years.

Billy had a love for the game of basketball his entire life.  While attending Oneida he was the star player and leading scorer on the men’s basketball team.  During his senior season in 1964 he led the team to the Tennessee State Finals where he shot 9 of 11 from the field and was awarded MVP of the state final game and was also named a member of the Tennessee All Star team.  He enjoyed watching Larry Bird play and cheering for the Indiana Pacers.  Billy’s love for sports was passed down to his grandchildren and he loved nothing more than going to their games.

Survivors include his wife, Sherry (Davis) Sharp, Muncie, IN; two sons, Billy “Lil Bill”, (wife-Brandy), Losantville, IN; Brad Sharp, (Chasity), Muncie; six grandchildren, Dakota Philebaum; Haley Philebaum; Jordan Sharp; McKenzie Philebaum; Zane Sharp; and Zachary Sharp.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Eric and Pearl Mae Sharp; daughter, Anitra Sharp; brother, Edgar Sharp; and two sisters, Ilene Sharp; and June Merritt.
