Edgar L. "Smitty" Smith

          Muncie-Edgar L. “Smitty” Smith, 76, passed away late Tuesday evening, November 27, 2012, at the Indiana University Ball Memorial Hospital emergency room following a sudden illness. He was born on August 21, 1936, in Ironton, Wisconsin, the son of, Clinton and Ruby (Markin) Smith.
          Edgar married Debra (Linder) Smith on July 31, 1978 in Muncie and she survives. Mr. Smith had been an over the road Truck Driver for Madison-Silo Trucking and later drove for the Fred Stewart Trucking of Muncie after 22 years of service retiring in 2001. He had proudly served in the United States Air Force having obtained the rank of Airman Third Class. Smitty enjoyed bowling, fishing, coached softball and could even be scene patrolling his neighborhood from his front porch. Edgar had been very involved in politics and even had run for State Representative at one time.
          Besides his wife of 34years, Debra, he is survived by two daughters, Holly McNabb (husband-Eric) and Sarah Parker (husband-Rodney), both of Muncie; three sons, Chris Smith (wife-Angel) and Rick Smith, both of Muncie and Dick Smith (wife-Marie), Tennessee; eleven grandchildren, Tasha, Michael, Eric, Devon, Jennifer, McKenna, Alexis, Skyler, Brady, Cali and Lila; several great grandchildren; one sister, Joanie West, California; two brothers, Jimmy Smith, Clearwater, Florida and Norman Smith (wife-Mary), Muncie.
          He was preceded in death by his parents, one grandson, Christopher Smith in 2001; three sisters, Shirley, Nancy and Cleo; seven brothers, Gordan, Larry, Paul, Ralph, Robert, Tony and Gary Smith.
          Funeral services will be held on Saturday, December 1, 2012, 1:00 P.M. at the Parson Mortuary with Pastor Ron Elam officiating. Burial will follow at the Tomlinson Cemetery. Military Honors to be rendered by the Delaware County Honor Guard.
          Friends may call at the Parson Mortuary on Friday, November 30, 2012, from 4:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. and again on Saturday December 1, 2012 from 12:00 P.M. until service time.
          Memorial contributions may be made to the Fraternal Order of Police, 821 S. Butterfield Rd. ; Muncie, IN 47302.
