Elizabeth Muterspaugh Tinder, 53, passed away peacefully in the evening on February 5th, 2018 surrounded by her family. The daughter of Earl and Anne (Clark) Muterspaugh, she was born in Muncie, IN on September 22, 1964. She graduated from Muncie Central High school in 1982 and continued her education at the University of Michigan, graduating in 1986. She was a proud initiate of the Beta Eta Chapter of the Alpha Delta Pi sorority of the University of Michigan on July 25, 1992 she married William Brent Tinder in Anderson, Indiana.
Elizabeth was a loving wife, mother, daughter, sister, aunt, niece and friend. She enjoyed spending her summers at Catalina Swim Club, where she made some of her closest friendships. She was a passionate educator and will be remembered for her love for and dedication to the city of Muncie and its students. She was a proud Bearcat, but also loved her 13 years teaching at Southside, and was happy to return there a counselor last fall.
She was constantly involved in her kids’ lives and spent much of her time supporting their activities. She never missed a dance competition, could always be found timing or keeping score at swim meets, actively participated in volleyball, tennis, and swimming boosters, attended countless little league games, golf matches, and track meets. She was never one to be a bystander, and was constantly helping and contributing in any way that she could.
Elizabeth is survived by her parents, Earl and Anne Muterspaugh; her husband, Brent Tinder; her children, Anne, Ellen, Clark and Sarah Tinder; her sisters Laura Murphy (husband-Michael), Carmel, IN and Marguerite Carless (husband-Don), Lafayette, IN. Her great uncle and aunt Bob and Julia Wadsworth; her four nieces, Anna and Julia Maxwell and Abigail and Meghan Murphy; her three nephews, Emerson Maxwell and Aaron and Brian Carless; her in-laws, William and Martha Tinder, Spartanburg, SC; and her brother in law, Kent Tinder, Spartanburg, SC.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, February 10, 2018, at 2:00 P.M. at the Friends Memorial Church 418 West Adams, Muncie, IN 47305. Friends may call at the Friends Memorial Church on Saturday, February 10, 2018, from 12:00 P.M. until time of service. Memorial contributions can be made to the form of blood donations to your local blood bank and registrations for the bone marrow donation registry.
