Esther J. Carman, 82, of Muncie, Indiana, passed away Thursday evening, March 22, 2018 at Morrison Woods Health Campus, Muncie.
She was born July 27, 1935 in Hickoria, Arkansas, the daughter of the late Hubert and Lively (Ring) Mitchell. Esther was raised in Muncie and was a 1953 graduate of Muncie Central High School. She had worked as a Nurses Aid for 28 years at Ball Memorial Hospital before retiring in 1997. She was a member of American Legion Auxiliary unit #19 and Avondale Sympathy Club. Esther enjoyed reading, watching television and spending time with her family.
She is survived by two daughters, Alaine Kay Carman, Muncie, IN; Lynda Lee Chamness, (husband-Eric), Mechanicsburg, IN; one son, James R. Carman, Jr., (wife-Jennifer), Purcellville, VA; two brothers, James Mitchell, (wife-Vickie), Muncie, IN; Burt D. Mitchell, Sr., (wife-Shelley), Muncie, IN; seven grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Hubert and Lively Mitchell; her husband of 47 years, James R. Carman, Sr.; daughter, Luella J. Driskill; granddaughter, Rebekah Driskill; son-in-law, Perry Welch; six sisters, and three brothers.
Celebration of life service will be held at Parson Mortuary at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 5, 2018 with a gathering for friends and family one hour prior to the service.
