Muncie: Franklin “Gayl” Woodring passed away on Thursday September 6, 2018 at I. U. Ball Memorial Hospital with family by his side. Gayl was born in Muncie to Eileen and Harold Gayl Woodring on April 6, 1933.
Gayl attended school at Muncie Central leaving to serve his country by joining the Navy at age seventeen. Gayl was an Indiana Golden Gloves Lightweight boxing champion in 1960 and 1961 and drove race cars in his youth. He married Phyllis Hammond in 1966 and later became a Teamster truck driver retiring from Marshes after more than thirty years of service. He was a member of the Academy of Model Aeronautics and enjoyed flying remote control airplanes.
Surviving him are 6 sons; Doug Woodring, Mike Woodring, Tom Woodring (Betty) Oakville, Joe Woodring (Julie Moss), Guy Woodring (Kathi) Michael Schoeff,, 4 daughters; Shawn Workman (Denny L. Helton), Denise Willson, Amber Webb (Jeff Calvert) Vanetta Brown (Jeff), and his brother Chuck Woodring in Reidsville North Carolina. He has many grandchildren and great-grandchildren who along with his dear friend Gary Santonie will miss him.
Preceding Gayl in death were his parents, Wwfe of 48 years Phyllis, sisters Pat and Shirley and his dear friend Rod Lewis.
Memorial services will be held at Parson Mortuary 801 West Adams Street on Friday September 14, 2018 at 5p.m. with Pastor Kevin Holt Officiating.
