Muncie-James “Jim” H. Koons, 83, passed away Saturday morning, February 3, 2018, at the Indiana University Ball Memorial Hospital following a brief illness. He was born on September 1, 1934 in Muncie, the son of Wilber Koons and Bertha (Cross) Koons- Whitmire.
Jim married the love of his life Jean (Deilkes) Koons on October 25, 1961 in Muncie and she survives. Mr. Koons had worked for Chevrolet first as a Carpenter eventually working himself into a management position as the General Supervisor over the skilled trades. He served them for 16 years in that capacity eventually retiring in 1986. Mr. Koons was honorably discharged from the U.S. Army having served during the later part of the Korean War and up to the early part of the Vietnam War. He was a member of the Carpenters Union, attended Glad Tidings Assembly of God Church, and enjoyed wood working, making furniture, building houses and deer hunting. It was said” he could do anything!” Family times with his children and grandchildren were very precious to him.
Besides his wife of 56 years, Jean, he is survived by one daughter, Tracy Johnson (husband-Wayne), Muncie; one son, Bill Koons (wife-Angela), Muncie; 10 grandchildren, William (husband, Evan), Jerrod, Nita, Malia, Mallory, Regan, Riley, Jason, Justin and Sean; 1 great granddaughter, Bryella; one sister, Mildred (Boots)Crutcher (husband-Ray), Selma; several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, 7 sisters and 2 brothers.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, February 7, 2018, 4:00 P.M. at the Parson Mortuary with Pastor Kyle Holt officiating. Private family burial will follow on Thursday, February 8, 2018, at the Gardens of Memory Cemetery north of Muncie.
Friends may call at the Parson Mortuary on Tuesday, February 6, 2018, from 4:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. and again on Wednesday, February 7, 2018, from 3:00 P.M. until service time.
