Joseph Arnold Obituary

 

Joseph Albert Arnold of Muncie Indiana was welcomed into the loving arms of his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ early after an extended illness on the morning of December 22, 2018.

Joseph was born on May 04, 1923 in Muncie Indiana. He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Goldie Arnold, and Virginia Lee Arnold (Brown), his wife of nearly 66 years. 

Joseph is survived by his four children, Stephen Joseph Arnold, Judith Lee Perkins, James Robert Arnold, and Susan Elaine Payzant, fifteen grandchildren, and twenty-one great grandchildren.  Joseph is also survived by his brother Bill Arnold, and Bill’s son Brett Arnold.

Joseph graduated from Muncie Central High School, and attended Ball State University.

Joseph was extremely proud of his service in the South Pacific during WW II, where he rose to the rank of Sergeant.  Joseph served in Townsville, Brisbane, Sydney, and Melbourne Australia. Finch Haven New Guinea and Finlandia Dutch New Guinea, Manila Philippine Islands as well as several locations in Japan including Okinawa, Yokohama, Mount Fujiyama and Tokyo.

Joseph compiled information on depth of rivers and streams, roads, and other points of interest from plantation owner maps and whatever maps were available to draw invasion Maps for the war effort.

After the war, Joseph served as a Draftsman, Records Supervisor, and finally as Division Engineer for Central Indiana Gas, until he retired in 1988.

Friends may call from 11:00 to 1:00 p.m. on Thursday December 27, 2018 at Parson Mortuary.  Funeral services will be at 1:00 p.m. Thursday December 27, 2018 at Parson Mortuary with Pastor Robin Wood officiating. Burial will follow at the Beech Grove Cemetery. Military honors will be rendered by the Delaware County Honor Guard.
