Karl Read Obituary

Muncie-Karl E. Read, 81, passed away Monday afternoon, August 27, 2018, at the Golden Living center Health Care Center following an extended illness.  He was born on March 3, 1937 in Muncie, the son of Richard and Vera (Seidner) Read.     

Karl is a 1955 graduate of Muncie Central High School and was enrolled at Ball State University when He entered the U.S. Navy.  Later he married the love of his life, Sherry (Lenhart) Read on August 17, 1965 in Cowan and she survives.  Mr. Read was proud to have served the Navy during the post Korea era had later worked for Delco-Remy in Anderson as a tool and die welder in the process engineering department for 32 years prior to his retirement in 1987.  He was a member of the United Auto Workers Union Local #662.  Karl enjoyed playing Cribbage and working on cars.

Besides his wife of 55 years, Sherry he is survived by one brother-in-law, Tom Lenhart (wife-Collett), Deltona, Florida; an almost daughter, Heidi Melancon (husband-Ben), Palm Harbor, Florida; an almost granddaughter, Heather Smith (husband-Shaun) and their daughter, Hayleigh, all of Palm Harbor, Florida; special friends, Quentin Mong, Yorktown; Lou Kratzer, Anderson; Roy Miller (companion-Carol Bengston), Illinois; his special four legged friend, their dachshund, Gretchel.

He is preceded in death by his parents.

A mass of Christian burial will be held on Friday, August 31, 2018, at the St. Lawrence Catholic Church at 11:00 A.M. with Rev. David Hellmann officiating.  Burial will follow at the Strong Cemetery in Albany.  Parson Mortuary is in charge of the arrangements.

The family has requested that no visitation take place.  Sherry would like to thank the staff at the Golden Living Health Care Center, for all their compassionate care they gave Karl, during his stay there.
