Portland- Mae Smith, 93, passed away Friday morning, February 10, 2012, at the Persimmon Ridge Health and Rehabilitation Center following an extended illness. She was born on June 25, 1918 in Farmland, the daughter of George and Leatha (Thompson) Younce.
She attended Farmland Schools. Mae married the love of her life, Bermond Smith on June 25, 1937 in Farmland and he preceded her in death in December of 1986. Mrs. Smith had been a homemaker.
Surviving are two sons, Donald Smith (wife-Dianna), Portland and Darrell Smith, Loogootee; 7 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren; 2 great, great grandchildren; one sister, Kathryn Spurgeon, Inverness, Florida; several nieces and nephews.
Besides her husband of 49 years, Bermond, she is preceded in death by her parents; one brother and one sister; and a son, James Smith in 1949.
Funeral services will be held on Sunday, February 12, 2012, 2:00 P.M. at Parson Mortuary with Pastor Donald Miller officiating. Burial will take place on Monday at the Elm Ridge Memorial Park Cemetery.
Friends may call at the Parson Mortuary on Sunday, February 12, 2012, from 1:00 P.M. until service time.
