Nellie Elizabeth Messer

Muncie; Nellie Elizabeth (Woolum) Messer was given her angel wings on Sunday, January 7, 2018 after a long battle of health issues.

Liz was born July 21, 1936 to John and Garnett Woolum. She spent most of her life in the Muncie area, as well as West Virginia.

Her favorite things to do were to attend flea markets, yard sales and bingo before her health issues.

Liz had worked at Poling’s, Pony Keg, Quality Inn and Delta Box to name a few, before retiring from DIY.

Liz enjoyed life and the love for her family and friends. She had a kind and caring heart and will be greatly missed by all that knew her.

Liz leaves to cherish her memory; One daughter; Anna (Collin) Buck of Muncie; Three sons; Gwinn (Shella) Messer of Muncie, Bob (Nadine) Messer of Logan, WV, and Monty (Mary) Messer of Lenore, WV; One Daughter-in-law; Jill Messer of Muncie; Five brothers; Jim, Johnny, Jerry, Jack and Pete Woolum; 10 Grandchildren; 24 Great-grandchildren; One great-great-grandchild; Several nieces, nephews and extended family; and her beloved cat, Baby.

She is preceded in death by her parents; Two sons; Paul H. Messer and Johnny Messer; Four sisters; and one brother.

Services will be held at Parson Mortuary, 801 West Adams Street, Muncie on Friday January 12th at 10:00 a.m. with burial to follow at Beech Grove Cemetery in Muncie, Indiana.

Calling will be held on Thursday evening, January 11th from 4:00p.m. to 8:00p.m. at Parson Mortuary and again Friday January 12th from 9:00am until time of service.

The family would like to thank all of the caring staff and doctors on the PCU unit at IU Health Ball Memorial Hospital. Memorials may be made to your favorite cancer charity or ARF of Muncie.
