Oneida I. Hatton

Oneida I. Hatton, 90, passed away on April 21, 2018 at IU Ball Memorial Hospital with her family by her side. Oneida was born on July 16, 1927 in Muncie, the daughter of Emil Lothair and Ina Marie (Bowers) Needham.

Oneida was a 1947 graduate of Harrison Township School and later married the love of her life, Edwin Harold Hatton on April 3, 1948 and he preceded her in death on November 14, 1999.   Mrs. Hatton had been the head cook for several years at the Harrison Township Elementary School and would eventually retire from the Wes-Del Community Schools in 2003.     She was twice named Public School Cook of the year for the State of Indiana and accomplished many things in her life but her volunteer service was her calling. She had logged over 3500 hours for Lifestream and countless hours for Ball Hospital.      She received many awards for this service, including the Viva Award in 2017.   Oneida had been very active at the Northside Church of God as the Custodian, Sunday School Teacher, helped with Junior Church and sang in the choir.  She enjoyed doing crochet, sewing, gardening and canning.

Oneida is survived by her four children; Harold Hatton (wife-Janet), Rochester, Minnesota, Carl L. Hatton (wife-Robin), Muncie, Phillip Hatton (wife-Nancy), Summitville and  Carol Craig(husband-Howard), New Albany; 10 grandchildren, Julia Stanley (husband-Paul), Jason Hatton (wife-Kristin), Jessica Hatton, Jennifer Hatton, Michael Hatton, Joshua Hatton, Jonathan Hatton (wife-Jessica), Gregory Hatton (wife-Karen), Maacah Lambert (husband-Paul), and Erin Standafer (husband-Allen); 15 great grandchildren; one brother, Jay Ferrell Needham, Daleville; one Aunt, Olive Conkle, Muncie; several nieces and nephews.

                Besides her husband of 51 years, Edwin, she is preceded in death by one son, Clifford Hatton in 2017; two infant siblings, Georgie Cleo and Sara Ellen; one brother, Vernon Needham and two sisters-in-law, Shirley Needham and Martha Needham.

Funeral services for Oneida will be held at 1:00pm on Wednesday April 25, 2018 at the Northside Church of God 1505 N. Tillotson Ave., Muncie, with Pastor Rodney Eiler officiating.   Burial will follow at the Gardens of Memory north of Muncie.    Parson Mortuary is in charge of the arrangements.     

                Friends may call at the Parson Mortuary on Tuesday, April 24, 2018 from 3:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. and again at the Northside Church of God o Wednesday, April 25, 2018, from 12:00 P.M. until service time.
