Parker City- Richard (Dick) Chalfant, 88, died June 11, 2017 on the same block of Parker City where he was born and lived his entire life.
Dick was a carpenter who learned to build houses from his father, Shirl. He retired from Consumer lumber Company.
Dick was a dedicated fan of IU basketball and Cubs baseball. He enjoyed telling stories of his former exploits on the high school basketball floor and baseball field. An avid fisherman, the fish of Prairie Creek Reservoir were said to have celebrated when he hung up his fishing poles in the summer of 2016.
Dick was married for 68 years to Betty (Cassel) who preceded him in death. He is survived by their five children: Gordon (wife-Myra) of Phoenix, AZ; Sharon Maynard (husband Gary), Muncie; Cheryl McNulty of Parker City; Larry (wife Donna) of Anderson, CA; and Jim (wife Joni) of Glendale, AZ.
He is survived by six grandchildren and one great grandson: Lori Anderson; Ryan McNulty; Kevin McNulty (wife Laura Smith); Michael Chalfant (wife Jillian), Troy Chalfant; Somer Chalfant and her son Dalton.
Also surviving are two sisters: Joanne Ellis of Muncie and Betty Cox of Brownsburg.
He was preceded in death by his cherished wife, Betty; his parents, Shirl and Effie Chalfant; his six brothers: Lee, Wilbur (Web), Pete, Merritt, Ray, and Gene; and three sisters: Charlene Deckman, Ardith Owens, and Ermel Ulrich.
A celebration of Dick’s life will be held Saturday, June 17 at 1:00 P.M. at Parson Mortuary with Pastor Mark Hill officiating. Public visitation will begin at eleven. Burial will follow at Union Cemetery in Windsor, IN.
