Obituary

It is with heavy hearts that we share the news of the passing of Brandon Scott Tomey on October 22, 2026, after an extended battle with brain cancer.

Brandon was born on March 3, 1979, in Muncie, Indiana, to Joan (Gibson) and Randy Tomey.

He graduated from Muncie Southside High School in 1997 and was voted “Most Likely to Succeed.” Brandon graduated from Indiana University in 2002 with a B.A. in Political Science and Criminal Justice, and I.U. School of Law in 2005 with a J.D. degree.

Known to his friends as “Charlie Law,” he was proud to have passed the Indiana State Bar exam on his first attempt in October of 2005 and was admitted to practice law by both the Northern and Southern District Courts and the Supreme Court of the State of Indiana.

Brandon enjoyed reading, playing his guitars and harmonica, listening to music, playing video games, doing YesFit walks, and being with family and friends. He was also a writer and had produced many short stories, poems, and a mystery novel. Brandon was active with the Muncie Civic Theater for a short time and was honored to have landed roles in “You Can’t Take It with You” and “Santaland Diaries.”

Brandon is survived by his parents and their dog, Peyton, his uncle Ronnie Strong, his aunt Karen (KJ) Gibson, close friends Tim and Maria King, special “nephews” Elijah and Gabriel King, several cousins, and a host of friends.

He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, James and Vernia (Henry) Gibson, his paternal grandparents, Don and Louise (Asdell) Tomey, his very best fur friend, Peanut, and several aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Funeral services will be held at Parson Mortuary on Thursday, October 29, 2026, at 12:30 PM. Visitation will be from 10:30 AM to 12:30 PM. Burial will follow at Gardens of Memory, north of Muncie.

Pastor Mike Fry will officiate.
