Carolyn Joan (Carson) Jones, 92, of Muncie, passed away on October 10, 2022, resting with her Lord and Savior in the company of Leon, her husband of 65 years, and many dear relatives and friends.

Carolyn was born September 16, 1930, in New Castle, Indiana, to Leslie Ward and Yevonne Edna(Williams) Carson. She attended school in Indiana and Maryland, graduating from Muncie Central High School in 1948, and participating in the Spanish Club and Honor Society.

Carolyn earned bachelor's and master's degrees from Ball State Teachers College, and for many years taught Spanish and French at Yorktown High School. In college, Carolyn met the love of her life while working as a page at Muncie Public Library, where Leon was an adult librarian. They married on March 23, 1951, at Hazelwood Christian Church and raised their three girls in Muncie.

Both were long-time Hazelwood choir members and active in MasterworksChorale, with Carolyn serving a term as president and creating printed programs. They participated together in Charles Dickens and Great Books reading groups. They loved to swim and became early morning regulars at Ball Pool.

Carolyn was a creative soul, working in photography, oil painting, and ceramics. In the 1960s, she grew vegetables on their acreage near Albany and made whole wheat bread and granola before they were popular. She knitted and sewed clothing and costumes, refinished furniture, painted and remodeled, and tiled her floors. Carolyn frequently offered community service through the Christian Women's Fellowship and was a crusader for recycling in every facet of her life. She was an unflagging caregiver for Leon, who passed in 2016 at 102. She loved sharing time with her grandsons and their children. She also doted on Morris/Maurice, the ginger cat who adopted her at "the farm," and her daughters' pups Bella, Joule, and Cubby.

Carolyn was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Robert Carson, of Saratoga Springs, NY.

She is deeply missed by her children, Karen (Jerry) Sutherland, Gold Beach, Ore.; Kristin Doyle, Muncie; and Catherine Brogan, Indianapolis; grandsons, Joshua (Kim) Yeager, Indianapolis, and Jason (Jen) Doyle, Greenfield; great-grandchildren, Kierstin Doyle and Coen Doyle, Greenfield; sister, Delores Bray, Mesa, Arizona; sister-in-law, Norma Carson, Saratoga Springs; and many nieces, nephews, and friends. Gratitude to Kris Doyle for enabling Carolyn to enjoy her last years at home. Special thanks to Jessika Daugherty and Home Instead for caregiving, and Joanne Smith, RN, and Paradigm Health for hospice care.

Arrangements by Parson Mortuary. A memorial celebration will be held at a later date. Donations in Carolyn's memory may be made to the Second Harvest Food Bank of ECI or the Muncie Public Library.
