Daniel Louis Scheidler, 75, passed away on Tuesday morning, October 4, 2022, at his home following an extended illness.  He was surrounded by his wife and children, and supported by prayers from family across the country.  He was blessed to meet his youngest grandchild just two weeks ago, and he received the joyful news of his latest grandchild just a day before his passing.

He was born in Greensburg, Indiana, the son of Richard and Olivia (Herman) Scheidler.  His nature was to be patient, gentle, and steadfast, although his sisters may have had a different opinion from his early years.  He carried the calm resilience from his early life into everything he did later.  He graduated from Greensburg High School, received his Bachelor's Degree from Purdue University, and earned his Master's Degree from Ball State University.  He married the love of his life Anne (O'Connor) in 1974 in Cincinnati, Ohio.  He was a financial analyst with Indiana University Health Ball Memorial Hospital for more than 20 years before his retirement in 2013. Since he grew up on a farm, no other occupation ever really seemed like it was work.  His true life's work was to serve God, his Family, and his Country.

Dan lived his life as a proud and committed Catholic.  He served at St Mary's Catholic Church in multiple roles over his life. He served on the Parish Council for many years.  For the last several years, he used his financial wisdom working on the Parish Finance Council.  He was so committed to his role that he participated in his final Finance Council meeting via telephone two weeks ago.  He was a proud member of the Knights of the Columbus, volunteering as their Pro-Life Coordinator for many years.  He walked in the National Walk for Life in Washington into his final years.  His service was important to him, but even more, he lived his life filled with faith, prayer, and love.

He brought his faith home, lived with quiet strength, and led his family as Jesus taught.  His early life on the farm taught him self-sufficiency and skills to tackle all home projects.  Over 43 years, he rebuilt or reworked every room in the home.  It was truly the "House that Dan built".  Friends jokingly called him "The Patron Saint of Home Improvement," as his skills were available not just to family, but friends and community too.  He was always happy to help!

He spent much of his time in the past 20 years traveling to visit his children.  He was pleased to visit his kids wherever they were: whether in California or Japan.  He loved playing euchre, watching sports (especially when his kids were playing), and always enjoyed a good party with family and friends.  He especially loved the experience of being the father of a daughter after raising three sons.

He was also a strong patriot, his love of Country ran deep, and volunteered as a United States Naval Academy Blue and Gold officer for over 15 years interviewing prospective midshipman candidates for the Naval Academy Admissions Department.

In addition to his wife of 48 years, he is survived by one daughter, Katherine; three sons, Christopher, Nicholas (Rachel), and Timothy (Kayla); six grandchildren, Penelope, Samuel, John, Cosette, Emilia, and Mark; and three sisters, Julia Koors (Carl), Jean Darding (Vaughn), and Joan Howard (Matt); and 30 nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister Marilyn.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Mary's Catholic Church on Saturday, October 8, 2022, at 1:30 PM, with Rev. Eric Underwood officiating.  Burial will follow at Jones Cemetery in Yorktown, Indiana.  Friends may call at Parson Mortuary on Saturday, October 8, 2022, from 10:00 AM to 11:30 PM.  Memorial Contributions may be made to the Semper Fi Fund, First Choice for Women, Muncie, or to St. Mary's Parish.
