David L. Folkner,77, passed away early Saturday morning, October 22, 2022, at the Indiana University Health Ball Memorial Hospital following a brief illness.  He was born on August 3, 1945, in Muncie the son of Herbert Merrill and Mona Charlene (Nicholson) Folkner.

David graduated from Muncie Central High School in 1963 and later married the love of his life "Jeri" (Hartley) Folkner on August 20, 1970, in Muncie and she survives.  He owned and operated the Gibson Appliance and Repair for several years while also umpiring for the City of Muncie and also maintaining the various athletic fields for the Muncie Community Schools.  Mr. Folkner really enjoyed baseball.  He was a big fan of the New York Yankees.  David played semi-pro baseball himself with the Muncie Orioles Baseball Team until the early 1980's when he started coaching Little League Baseball.  He was a Big Bearcat supporter and enjoyed playing golf at the maple wood Golf Course where he was a member also.  Mr. Folkner was a member of the True Light Baptist Church.  David was very proud of his family and treasure the moments he could spend with them.

Besides his wife of 52 years, Jeri, he is survived by two daughters, Stephanie Schuetz (Jay), Decatur, Illinois and Christy Reis, Alexandria; one son, David Folkner (Christy), Fishers; twelve grandchildren, Reid, Finn, Audrey, Jayden, Abigail, Alyson, Jackson, Alex, Kelly, Myles, Gabe and Jack; several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Craig Folkner in 2012 and five siblings, Barbara, Jack, Donald, Max and Mike.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, October 28, 2022, at 1:00 P.M. at the Parson Mortuary with Pastor Dennis Trimble officiating.  Burial will follow at Gardens of Memory Cemetery north of Muncie.

Friends may call at Parson Mortuary on Thursday evening, October 27, 2022, from 5:00 P. M. until 8:00 P.M. and again on Friday, October 28, 2022, from 12:00 P.M. until time of service at 1:00 P.M.
