Duane Lee Cox, 76, of Farmland, Indiana, passed away on September 6, 2026, surrounded by family. Duane was born in Winchester, Indiana, on December 19, 1949, to Fred and Evelyn (Alyea) Cox.

Following graduation from Monroe Central, Duane married the love of his life, Cheryl, and they were married for fifty-seven years before his passing. Duane was a loving husband and father who was always there for his wife, children, and grandchildren. He actively participated in his children's lives, coaching softball and baseball for their youth teams. He always had a smile on his face and was known as a "hugger" who always let you know he cared.

Duane carried his concern for people into his professional life and served as a Police Officer in Farmland, Indiana, as well as doing security for the Social Security offices. He was a faithful fan of the North Carolina Tar Heels and enjoyed baseball and race cars.

He is survived by his wife, Cheryl Cox; a son, Shane Cox (Sheridan); two daughters, Heather Smithson-Cox and Melissa Brown (Scott); grandchildren, Melanie, Corbin, and Sloan Cox; Isaac, Olivia, and Gage Smithson; and Kloe and Macy Shinn. In addition, he is survived by his siblings, Mike Cox, Reed Cox (Glenda), Shelia Cook, and Cindy Grant (Danny).

He was preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Evelyn, and a brother, Phil Cox.
