Obituary

Florence King Davis, of Muncie, Indiana, went home to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on October 10, 2026.

Florence was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, and friend. She was a talented seamstress who blessed her family with beautiful quilts, a wonderful cook and baker known for her delicious German chocolate cake and chocolate gravy, and an avid gardener who enjoyed canning the fruits of her labor. She was also a warm and gracious hostess who loved welcoming family and friends into her home.

Above all, Florence was a woman of deep and abiding faith. Her love for the Lord was evident in her prayer life, her kindness toward others, and the many ways she faithfully pointed those around her to Jesus.

Florence was born in Jamestown, Tennessee, on March 18, 1938, to Carson and Ruby King. She graduated from York Agricultural Institute in 1957. She married Louis Nelson Davis on May 22, 1959. Their marriage was a beautiful reflection of love, devotion, and commitment for 67 years.

Florence is survived by her beloved husband, Louis; her daughters, Sherlene A. Fouch (Brent) of Muncie, Indiana, and Merlene D. Mallory (Robert) of Hampton, Virginia; and her son, C. Duane Davis (Terri) of Columbia, South Carolina. She is also survived by her precious grandchildren and great-grandchildren, whom she cherished and adored: Grandchildren: Matthew Fouch (Candice), Brittany Dorton (Eric), Leanne Ellis (Bradley), Alan Mallory, Steve Mallory (Lacy), Jesse Mallory (Hannah), Paul Mallory (Dinah), Calvin Davis (Sarah), Margaret Davis, and Carson Alex Davis (Gray). Great-Grandchildren: Greyson and Kingston Fouch; Addie, and Thomas Jospeh (TJ) Dorton; Carson, Bentley, and Whitley Ellis; Stephen, Aria, Jack, and Wesley Mallory; Ada and Daisy Mallory; Sylvia and Lenora Mallory; and Molly Davis.

Florence is also survived by her siblings, Tollie King (Suzie) and Flossie Garrett (Elmo); her sister-in-law, Patti King; two special nephews, Herlan Hinds and Terry Hinds; and many other treasured nephews, nieces, great-nephews, and great-nieces.

Florence was preceded in death by her parents, Carson and Ruby King, and her siblings, Girlden Norris Mullinix, Oliver Matthews (Virgie), James King (Dean), Earnest King (Mildred), and Horace King.

Florence was a faithful member of True Light Baptist Church for 67 years. She served in many capacities, including caring for children in the nursery and preparing the church's communion bread. Through her years of faithful service, she formed many cherished friendships within her church family.

Throughout her life, Florence cared for others through her work in nursing homes and by operating a private daycare center. Her caring nature and love for people were evident not only in her family and church life but also in the lives of those she touched through her work.

Florence leaves behind a legacy of faith, family, love, and service. Those who knew and loved her will remember her warm hospitality, generous heart, and, most of all, her steadfast love for Jesus and her family.
