Ruth Garringer went to be with the Lord on November 8, 2022, at Waters Edge Village in Muncie, Indiana, after a long illness.

She was born in Glasgow, Kentucky on August 2, 1929, to parents Delmer (Lee) and Alma McCoy, and moved with her family to Muncie when she was an elementary school student. Ruth graduated from Central High School in 1947.

It was during her work as a stenographer at Warner Gear when she met her husband, Richard (Dick) Garringer, to whom she was married for nearly 69 years before his death on April 8, 2020. Ruth and Dick had two children, Jim and Jane, and raised them near Royerton, Indiana, in the home they shared for 55 years.

During her working career outside the home, Ruth served ManpowerGroup as a temporary worker and Butterfield Foods, but the most satisfying work she experienced was her service as a church secretary to the congregations of St. Andrew's Presbyterian, First Baptist, and First Presbyterian Churches, the latter where she served for the final 24 years of her career.

Ruth loved music and during her younger years played piano for a local hymn singing radio program. She and Dick loved ballroom dancing and also travel. Their travels included London, Jerusalem, Hawaii, Nova Scotia, the Caribbean, and the Mediterranean among numerous other locations throughout the United States. They were also members of Riverside United Methodist Church for more than 65 years where she was active in Sunday School, Vacation Bible School, Kid's Hope, Women's Circle, and various Bible studies, both at Riverside as well as the YMCA.

She is survived by her children, Jim (Lois) and Jane, as well as five grandchildren, Doug (Abby) Farren, Jessica (Jammie) Bane, Katie (Valdaniel) Martins, Peter (Katie) Garringer, and Matthew (Emily) Garringer, and seven greatgrandchildren. Also surviving are her brother William McCoy, and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

The family wishes to extend their special thanks to the staff of Waters Edge Village for the outstanding and loving care given to Ruth and Dick, as well as ViaQuest Hospice for their tender care for Ruth during the last days of her life.

A Celebration of Life for both Ruth and Dick (who died during the Covid pandemic) will be held at Westminster Presbyterian Church on Saturday, December 17, 2022, at 2:00 pm with visitation at 1:00 pm. A private burial service will be held at Gardens of Memory.
