James H. McCoy, 91, died peacefully on Thursday, June 22, 2023, after an extended illness.  His loving wife and family were by his side during his months at Bethel Pointe and now he is alive in Christ forever! Jim was born April 26, 1932, in Ft. Wayne, IN, the son of Kenneth McCoy and Florence (Bruns) McCoy.  He grew up in Ft. Wayne and graduated from Concordia High School in 1950, where he also played basketball.  He entered the Navy a year after graduation and served four years during the Korean War.  During that time, he also played basketball for the Navy.  Upon discharge, he came to Ball State College where an arranged introduction to the campus led to meeting his future wife, Judy Brown.  They married on March 7, 1959, and were married for 64 years.  He was president of his fraternity, Sigma Tau Gamma, while at Ball State.  Jim began his career in data processing with Ball State and was then hired into a new business in town, Westinghouse (ABB), where he is thought to have been the first Muncie resident hired.  He retired as the manager of the data systems department in 1991.  Following his retirement, he diligently maintained financial records for his church, Grace Lutheran.  Also serving on the stewardship board, singing in the church choir, and coordinating the church golf league.  Jim valued the friends he made through their pinochle group of 40 years, playing tennis, breakfast at Mulligans, golfing, and church.  He loved his family and they loved him.  He had a great sense of humor, knew lots of silly songs, and had a special way with babies and animals. Survivors include his wife, Judy; three children, Carrie Hill (husband Rick), Jennie DeVoe (husband Rob), and Eric McCoy (wife Debbie); five grandchildren, Cory Hill (Jenn), Shea Hill (Christina), Devon Hill (Hannah), Colton McCoy and Carson McCoy; seven great-grandchildren, Forrest, Abel, James, Hudson, Harper, Oliver, and Halle; sisters-in-law Janet Wake and Ruth Brown; nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Betty Buchheimer, brother's in-law John Buccheimer and Jim Brown. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, July 8, 2023, at Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church, 610 N. Reserve St, Muncie.  Visitation will begin at 10:00 AM until the service begins at 12:00 PM.  Memorials may be directed to Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church.  The family wishes to express our sincere appreciation for the love and care he received from Heart to Heart Hospice, especially Susan and Rachael and so many on the Bethel Pointe staff.  Parson Mortuary is entrusted with handling the services.
