Leland Guy Mathew, 95, passed away early Friday morning, July 22, 2022 at the Bethel Point Health and Rehabilitation Center following an extended illness.  He was born on March 31, 1927 in Muncie the son of John Lewis Mathew and Mary E. (Smallwood) Mathew-Hedgeland.

Leland attended Yorktown School. He enlisted for service in the U.S. Navy in 1944 and served until 1946 when he was honorably discharged.   He married the love of his life, Mary E. (Walker) Mathew on May 9, 1947 in Muncie and she preceded him in death in 2021.  Mr. Mathew had worked as a supervisor for both Dayton Walther and also Beckett Bronze Corporations for 30 years.  Leland was a member of both the National and Indiana Knife Collectors Clubs, he was a former member of the Moose Lodge #33 and the American Legion Post #19, was an avid Flea marketer with his wife and enjoyed bowling for several years on the Beckett Bronze Team known as The Muncie Metal Spinners.

Survivors include, two daughters, Diane Kay Harvey (Jerry), Brooksville, Florida and Linda Carole Pennycuff (Danny), Yorktown; one son, Gary Lewis Mathew(companion, Elaine Orr), Muncie; 3 grandchildren, Dustin Carpenter (Wendy), Rhett Carpenter (Christy) and Andrew Pennycuff; 7 great grandchildren; 1 great, great  granddaughter; one granddaughter-in-law, Deanna Mathew, Indianapolis; one sister, Cuba J. Buchanan, Muncie; one sister-in-law, Betty Mathew, Muncie; one brother-in-law, Paul Walker (Darlene), DeSoto; several nieces and nephews.

Besides his wife of 74 years, Mary, he was preceded in death by one grandson, Chad Mathew; one daughter-in-law, Linda Mathew; his parents; one sister, Margaret Quire; two brothers, Robert Mathew and Lewis Mathew.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, July 27, 2022 at 10:00 A.M. at Parson Mortuary with Bishop Michael Perdue officiating.  Burial will follow at the Gardens of Memory Cemetery north of Muncie.  Military honors will be rendered by the Delaware County Honor Guard.

Friends may call at Parson Mortuary on Wednesday July 27, 2022 from 9:00 A.M. until time of service at 10:00 A.M.   A special thanks to Pastor Phil Rogers and the Heart-to-heart Hospice Group and the staff at Bethel Point Health and Rehabilitation Center for their wonderful care during this time of convalescents.
