Michael E. Inman, age 57, of Muncie, IN, passed away surrounded by his family on August 20, 2026, from complications of Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis.

Michael was born June 26, 1969, in Gary, IN, to Robert and Shirley (Finnerty) Inman.  He graduated from Andrean High School in Merrillville, Indiana, in 1987, and Wabash

College in Crawfordsville, Indiana, in 1991. He obtained his Doctor of Medicine degree from Indiana University School of Medicine in 1995, and finished his Anesthesia Residency at Indiana University School of Medicine in 1999. He and Diana Ward were married on June 4, 1994, at St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church in Indianapolis.

Michael spent his entire 25-year career working at IU Ball Memorial Hospital, where he helped many thousands of patients through the surgery process. He worked as an Assistant Clinical Professor of Anesthesia with the IU School of Medicine, and enjoyed passing on his knowledge to new nurses and residents who came through his operating room. After his diagnosis, he retired in July 2024 to spend more time with his family and playing pinball.

Pinball was a nearly lifelong hobby for Michael. After learning to play pinball in the bowling alleys and arcades of his youth, he played sporadically until the move to Muncie provided him with the space and opportunity to purchase his own machines.  He spent his free time learning to fix and refurbish the games, and curating his own collection by trading with others in the pinball community. When competitive pinball became popular, he spent many evenings and weekends traveling to tournaments not only in Indiana, but also in other parts of the country, often with his son, John. Many friendships were forged in the heat of battle, and he was proud of his ranking in the top 1000 players in the world. He also liked to play video poker and blackjack, and trips to casinos were often combined with scouting out new places to play pinball.

Michael is survived by his wife of 32 years, Diana, and their three children, Paul, John, and Katherine, as well as his brother Robert Inman. He was preceded in death by his parents.

He will be remembered for his love of God, his family, medicine, pinball, and corny jokes and puns. He tried to live his life just a little extra, and somewhere, he is still having fun.

Friends may visit on Wednesday, August 26, 2026, from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at Parson Mortuary, 801 West Adams Street in Muncie. A funeral Mass will be held on Thursday, August 27, 2026, at 10:00 AM at Saint Lawrence Catholic Church at 820 East Charles Street in Muncie.  Internment will take place immediately afterward at Elm Ridge Memorial Park at 4600 West Kilgore Avenue in Muncie.
