Alan Paul Hokenson, 74, passed away in Muncie, Indiana, at IU Ball Memorial Hospital on August 21, 2025.  Alan was born in Chicago, Illinois, on March 29, 1951, the son of Theodore and Florence (Adamczyk) Hokenson. 

Alan graduated from St. George High School in Chicago and went on to earn his undergraduate degree from DePaul University and his Master's Degree in Nursing from the University of Illinois College of Nursing.  Following graduation, he worked at several different hospitals, including the Veterans Administration, Wishard, and Cook County Hospital.

Alan and his wife, Patricia Hokenson, were co-founders of Blue Butterfly Originals.  The company was devoted to promoting pin loom fiber arts.

Every Blue Butterfly Original Skipper pin loom was hand-crafted by Alan in sixteen different sizes using cherry and walnut woods.  Patricia brought them to life with her pin loom fiber art projects.  The looms were shipped all over the world.

Alan was active in several groups over his life, including the Coast Guard Auxiliary, the Academy of Model Aeronautics, and the Muncie Sailing Club for over forty years. He also obtained his pilot’s license and flew a small private plane.  Alan had a passion for many things, but the two that were his strongest were sailing and woodworking.  He built several boats over the years, including a two-masted schooner and a folding schooner.  This was a passion that he shared with his daughter, Kathryn.

He leaves behind his wife, Patricia Hokenson; a daughter, Kathryn Waldher of Bothell, Washington; a brother, Walter Hokenson; and two nephews, Jonathan and Michael Hokenson.

Alan was preceded in death by his Parents, Theodore and Florence.

Funeral services will be on Thursday, August 28, 2025, at 11:00 AM at Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church, 610 N. Reserve, Muncie.  Friends may call on the family from 10:00 AM until the time of the service.  Burial will follow at Elm Ridge Cemetery in Muncie.  Rev. Danny Mackey will officiate.
