Alissa Stewart Obituary

Alissa Ashley Stewart, 38, of Selma, IN, went home to be with The Lord on Jan. 14, 2023, at around 5 a.m. at St. Vincent Hospital on Harcourt and 86th St. in Indianapolis after a long battle with heart failure.  Alissa was an LVAD recipient to aid with research for other heart patients.

Alissa was born on Aug. 3, 1984, at Ball Memorial Hospital in Muncie.  She is the daughter of Danita G. Jennings, Selma, and Michael L. Stewart (wife: Terry Nelson), Orlando, FL.  Her uncle, Richard Stewart, Yorktown was like a father to her.

Alissa attended Parkview Christian School and graduated from Muncie Career Center.  She earned an associate’s degree in office administration and software application from Ivy Tech State College.

She began working at Papa John’s when she was 15 years old.  She also worked at Head Start where she was a teacher’s aide, bus monitor, and substitute teacher.  She was a custodian at Muncie Reclamation and worked in the purchasing department at Muncie Transit and ABC Bus Lines.

She was a member of Heritage Apostolic Church where she was a Donations Coordinator and worked in the sound booth.  She had also been a Sunday school teacher and was in the Unity Sign Language Group before she became so ill.

Alissa had recently illustrated for a children’s book written by her mom, “Farmer Fritz’s Stinky Pigs.”

She was a member of Thi Beta Kappa and was a former member of MADD and The Real-Life Program which illustrates the dangers of drunk driving.  She enjoyed cooking, painting, and crafts and was an avid Star Wars fan.  She was learning Spanish.

She is survived by her parents, her brother, Tyler Lopez, Muncie (Girlfriend: Taylor Middleton, Carmel), and sister, Rachael Ruiz (husband: Alfredo Sr.), Orlando, FL; her nephews, Logan Lopez and Alfredo Jr. “Bubba” Ruiz and niece, Skylar Ruiz and both of her grandmothers – Lois Jennings, Muncie, and Winona Kinder, Parker City.

She is also survived by her aunts, uncles, cousins, and many friends.  Her best friend, Adrianne King, has been her main caregiver for the past several years.

Alissa was preceded in death by both her grandfathers, Ernest Ozzo Jennings, and William “Bill” Stewart, and her great-grandparents.

Services will be held at Heritage Apostolic Tabernacle, 3120 S. Walnut St. in Muncie, on Wednesday, January 25, 2023, at 10:00 A.M. with Bishop Michael Perdue officiating.  Burial will follow at Tomlinson Cemetery.  Parson Mortuary is entrusted with these arrangements.

Friends may call at Heritage Apostolic Tabernacle on Tuesday evening, January 24, 2023, from 3:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. and again on Wednesday, January 25, 2023, from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service.

Memorial contributions may be made to either Heritage Apostolic Tabernacle or the American Heart Association at 6500 Technology Center Dr.; suite 100 Indianapolis, IN 46278.
