Allen Lee Surpas, 79, passed away at IU Ball Memorial Hospital, on November 19, 2024, following a battle with cancer. Allen was born on April 10, 1945, in Anderson, Indiana, the son of Albert and Alva Surpas.
Allen attended Anderson High School and became a truck driver after school. He ultimately retired from Perfection Bakeries as a delivery driver. He was a thirty-year member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles and was a State Trustee for them. Allen was a huge sports fan, but he especially loved the Green Bay Packers and watching NASCAR. He was also a member of the Selma Legion.
Perhaps what Allen was most known for was his love of family and friends. He was a man who made friends easily and was described as a big “teddy bear” by many. Allen stayed close to those he loved, and the family said they will miss his “Sunday phone calls.”
Left behind to cherish his memory are his wife, Carol Moon-Surpas; son, Brian Surpas (Trudi); daughters, Allison Cary (Michael), Deanna Baldwin, and Laurie Ward (Rick). In addition, he is survived by his stepdaughter, Carmen Hornbaker (Rob); sixteen grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.
Allen was preceded in death by his parents, his stepfather, Leonard Ormes, his first wife, Shelia (Weakley) Surpas, his brother, Wayne Ormes, his stepson Jeffrey Moon, and his wife, Carrinna Moon.
A celebration of life will be held at Parson Mortuary, 801 W. Adams, Muncie, Indiana, on Wednesday, November 27, 2024, from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM. There will be a memorial service at 1:00 PM with Pastor Rusty Clements officiating.
