Barbara J. (Moorhead) Owens, 86, passed away Thursday, January 25, 2024, at Yorktown Manor after fighting liver cancer. She was born March 15, 1937, in St. Helens, OR, and graduated from St. Helens High School in 1955. She married Tom Owens on November 18, 1961, and they had three daughters—Kathy and Twins, Jean and Joan. In years past, Barbara worked for J.K. Gill, Portland, OR; Skaggs Automotive, Spokane, WA; and Community Care Center, Muncie, IN. Barbara enjoyed spending time with family, including her cat grandbaby, Willow; reading at home; going for car rides; listening to music; and watching Agatha Christie/Hercule Poirot. There was nothing Tom and Barbara wouldn’t do for their children- they were always there to help. Barbara is survived by her daughter, Joan Owens, and granddaughter, Skylar Richwine. She was preceded in death by her husband, Tom; daughters, Kathy and Jean; brothers, Harold and Lee; and parents, Madeleine (Ramon) and Abraham Moorhead). Barbara was an active member of Springport Christina Church and especially enjoyed their Sunday lunches and Thursday suppers. Instead of flowers, Barbara requested that any memorial contributions be made to Springport Christian Church, 509 W. Main St. Springport, IN 47386.
Cremation is being done with a memorial service to be held at Springport Christian Church on Monday, February 12, 2023, at 1:00 P.M. with Pastor Tad Mills officiating.
