Betty G. Stephens, 93, went to her heavenly home Friday afternoon, July 19, 2024, at her residence following an extended illness surrounded by her family and friends.  She was born on November 18, 1930 in Muncie the daughter of Ross C. and Nada M. (Merrick) Gadbury.    Betty graduated from Central High School in 1948, there she met her future husband Herman L.  Stephens whom she married on June 4, 1948 and he preceded her in death in 1989.  Betty had earned both her Bachelor’s and Her Master’s Degrees in Elementary Education from Ball State University.  Mrs. Stephens enjoyed being an educator on the elementary level and had taught in Muncie Community Schools, Forest Hills in Anderson and eventually in Muskegon, Michigan.  She was a member of Delta Zeta Sorority, the Red Hat Society, was a world traveler, and toured all over Europe at least once.  She attended the University Christian Church at Yorktown.

She is survived by two sons, Jefferey R. Stephens (Dusty), Connersville and John M. Stephens, Hartford City;  two step children, Colleen Carrosela and Mark Stephens;  five granddaughters, Traci Markcum (Robert Waters), Mercedez Stephens, Jessica North, Kristin Prietto and Heather Prietto; two  great granddaughter, Brittany Moon and Kaitlyn Pittsenbarger; six  great, great-grandchildren, Kale, Preslee & Bradley Moon, Faith Swift, Aria, and Bella;  special friends that were like her own daughters,  Cynthia A. Stephens,  Sue Taylor, and Stacy Taylor.

Besides her husband of 41 years, Herman, she was also preceded in death by her parents; one daughter, Teri C. Drayer.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, July29, 2024, at 1:00 P.M. at Parson Mortuary with Pastor Steve Huddleston officiating.  Burial will follow at the Matthews Cemetery in Matthews, Indiana.

Friends may call at Parson Mortuary from 11:00 A.M. until time of the service.
