Charles. E. Wilson Jr. Obituary

Charles E. Wilson, a devoted husband, father, and friend whose humor, kindness, and love of sports touched every part of his life, passed away peacefully on March 8, 2026, in Muncie, Indiana, at the age of 89.

Born in Mt. Vernon, New York, on April 8, 1936, Charlie lived a full and joyful life defined by devotion to his family and an infectious enthusiasm for nearly every sport imaginable. He attended Kent State University, where he played football and laid the foundation for a lifetime characterized by teamwork and perseverance.

On September 15, 1956, Charlie married the love of his life, Shirley Diadone, sharing more than 50 years of companionship, laughter, and adventure before her passing. Together, they raised three children: John Wilson, Brenda Howe (husband Jeffrey), and Betsy Wilson, who carry forward his warmth, generosity, and wit. He is also survived by two grandchildren, Kristina and Jason Howe; four great-grandchildren, Jaelon and Aleesia Stanley and Aeryn and Cairo Howe; his beloved sister, Elaine Alston and several nieces and nephews. Many friends and extended family also remember him fondly for his good nature and enduring spirit.

Charlie spent many years in the insurance industry before joining Ball Corporation’s Corporate Risk Management Department, a move that brought his family to Muncie, Indiana. He earned a reputation for professionalism, dedication, and genuine interest in others. Known for quietly helping those in need, he once gifted a car to an employee facing difficult times. Sports were among Charlie’s greatest passions. Whether cheering from the stands, analyzing a game on television, or perfecting his golf swing, he approached competition with great enthusiasm. A particularly skilled golfer, he proudly shot his age and achieved a rare hole in one. At home, he shared his life with several beloved dogs, each a loyal companion who relished his affection.

Charlie was a proud supporter of Amvets, American Legion and the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW), reflecting his deep respect for service and community. The family extends heartfelt gratitude to the compassionate staff at Morrison Woods for their care and friendship over the past two years, and to Heart to Heart Hospice for providing comfort and dignity in his final days. Those wishing to honor Charlie’s memory are encouraged to make contributions to the Heart to Heart Foundation in his name at www.htohhfoundation.org/donation

Charlie Wilson’s life was rich with laughter, love, and quiet acts of generosity. His example will continue to inspire all who had the privilege of knowing him, on the golf course, in the office, and as a friend.
