Charlie Hinds Obituary

Charlie Hinds, 85, of Muncie, IN passed away peacefully on October 8th, 2024, surrounded by his loving family. Born on October 2, 1939, in Jamestown, Tennessee, he moved to Muncie with his
family as a young child.


Charlie attended Stevenson Elementary, Blain Junior High and graduated from Muncie Central High School in 1958 where he was a member of the Bearcat Basketball team. Charlie married Marcia McCarthy Hinds in 1959. For many years, Charlie owned and operated The Caboose and Nelson’s Bar, where he built a reputation for his warm personality and friendly spirit. In addition, he owned several rental properties, maintaining them until his retirement in 2020. He was a man of integrity, hard work and generosity.



Survivors include his wife, Marcia, three wonderful children, Tom Hinds, Tim Hinds, and Kathy Hinds Bergdoll (Barry). Grandchildren Katelyn Bergdoll Smith (Brandon), Chelsea Bergdoll, and Chaz Hinds, two great-grandsons, Jack & Charlie Smith, who brought him great joy in his later years. Brother and best friend, Larry Hinds (Judy), who was a constant source of support and companionship throughout his life, several nieces and nephews, and his beloved dog, Gracie.



He is preceded in death by his mother, Eva Hinds Wade, stepfather, Harold Wade, brothers, Jim Hinds and Gene Hinds, granddaughter, Kirstin Bergdoll, niece, Kelli Hinds Dehart, and nephew, Kevin Hinds.



In accordance with his wishes, Charlie will be cremated, and there will be no formal services. His family invites friends and loved ones to remember him in their own special ways. Charlie will be dearly missed by all who knew him. In lieu of flowers, his family suggests donations to the Muncie ARF or Muncie Animal Care, in his memory.
