Clyde A. Reed, 102, passed away Monday morning, May 31, 2021, he was a resident of Selma, Indiana. He was born November 7, 1918 in Owingsville, Kentucky, the son of Bruce and Pearl (Bailey) Reed. Clyde grew up in Muncie and attended Muncie Schools.
Clyde met the love of his life, Marian E. Myers, and they were married on December 3, 1938 at the Jackson Street Christian Church in Muncie. They were both employees of Ontario Manufacturing Company at the time. Clyde and Marian were married for 47 wonderful years prior to Marian’s passing in 1986. He later worked at Chevrolet- Muncie Transmission Plant as a Toolmaker, retiring in 1980 after nearly 38 years of employment. Clyde was a member of Moose Lodge, Selma Lions Club, and Liberty Regional Waste Board.
Clyde loved to work in his yard and grew beautiful roses, flowers, decorative trees & bushes, he took much pride in having one of the most beautiful yards in Selma. Clyde was a St. Louis Cardinal fan and could talk for hours about Stan Musial, Dizzy Dean, the Gas House Gang, Bob Gibson, and all the Cardinals. Clyde rattled off batting averages, home runs, World Series Championship years and anything else you wanted to know concerning the Cardinals. He was born the same month, day and year as Rev. Billy Graham. Clyde talked about Rev. Graham and the influence he had on religion in America and the World. Another big interest of Clyde’s was Country Music, he talked about country singers from the likes of Ernest Tubb, Merle Haggard, George Jones, Allen Jackson and many more. Clyde had a great memory about Country songs, singers and anything related to the Grand Ole Opry.
Left to cherish their memories of Clyde are his son, Gary (Patsy) Reed, Mooresville, NC; daughter, Jeffra (Mike) Luce, Selma, IN; grandchildren, Kimberlyn Reed, Kannapolis, NC; Tamara (Dale) Caldwell, Mooresville, NC; Dean (Sherry) Reed, Ft. Wayne, IN; Joe (Karrie) Luce, Roanoke, IN; Matt (Marie) Luce, Selma, IN; and Kris (Faron) Luce, Westfield, IN; 18 Great-Grandchildren; 6 Great-Great Grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Marian; a brother, Obert (Mildred) Reed; sister, Ileeda (Wally) Nusbaum; and a special friend, Virginia Johnson.
Clyde’s family sends special thanks to caregivers (“Guardian Angels” per Clyde), Kay Bradburn, Cheryl Cross, Peggy Selvey, and Brandy Spence for their loving care, friendship and kindness they brought to his life. Special thanks are also extended to Jerry Zearbaugh for his friendship and handy work.
Services will be held at Parson Mortuary, 801 West Adams Street, Muncie, Indiana at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 5, 2021 with Senior Pastor James Ballenger officiating. Burial will follow in Gardens of Memory Cemetery.
Calling will be at the mortuary from 10:00 a.m. on Saturday until the time of service.
