Darryl F. Collins was a man of deep convictions and a huge heart. Born in Pontiac, Michigan, on March 13, 1951. He spent his life appreciating the things that truly mattered: his family, his faith, and a good day of fishing. Darryl passed away on February 9, 2026, leaving behind a lifetime of stories and a family who loved him dearly.
Darryl was a veteran who took great pride in his service with the Marines. Following his honorable discharge in 1969, his path took a spiritual turn as he attended Miracle Valley Bible college in Arizona after meeting a mutual friend in Gary Hickman. There, his journey brought him to Muncie, Indiana, where he met the love of his life, Martha. Together, they started a journey that would span 53 years, making Muncie their permanent home.
Darryl worked until he retired from Werts Novelty and Merdian Services, sharing his life and kindness with his neighbors and friends. If Darryl wasn't at home or at church, you could usually find him by the water. He loved the outdoors and felt close to all God had built when he had a fishing pole in his hand. Whether he was up North testing his strength against salmon or sitting quietly at a local pond waiting for the familiar tug of a catfish, he was in his element. For Darryl, fishing wasn't just a hobby; it was where he went to find a little peace and quiet.
Retirement didn't slow Darryl down -- it just gave him more time to be creative. He had a knack for making things with his hands, often gifting handmade crafts to those he cared about. He also had a soft spot for music and writing, frequently sharing his spirit through singing and poetry.
Darryl was greeted in Heaven by his parents, Lillian and Raymond, and his brother Mike Collins.
More than anything, Darryl was a family man. He loved his wife, Martha; he was a steady presence for his son Jason (Sarah), and his daughter, Rachel (Shane). His grandkids -- Avery, Chloe, and Blake -- were his pride and joy, and he cherished every moment he spent with them. Darryl was a kind soul who lived a full, honest life. He'll be remembered for his service, his poems, and the way he always seemed to have time for a friend.
