David Randall "Randy" Wilson Obituary
David Randall (Randy) Wilson died at home on June 30, 2025. Randy was born on July 25th, 1938 in Birmingham, AL to Isabel (nee Smullin) and Arthur Wilson. Randy was raised near Philadelphia and loved playing drums and jazz. He graduated from Penn State in 1961 and subsequently attended graduate school at Ohio University, where he met and married Judith Sokiran in 1962.
Shortly afterwards, he joined the United States Air Force as an Information Officer. While serving in the military in the early 1960s, Randy especially enjoyed working on numerous film projects and pioneered techniques to record in-flight cockpit audio, deploying innovations that significantly reduced background noise and improved clarity.
After leaving active-duty Randy remained in the USAF Reserves, retiring at the rank of Major in 1998. Randy had a long career in public service, working for three decades in senior Public Affairs roles for the departments of Health Education and Welfare, Energy, and finally, Labor. He was a “PR guy,” and took pride in his writing. He took early retirement to care for his wife Judith, who had been diagnosed with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis, and cared for her until her passing in 2003.
In 2004, Randy married Lee Tyler, and they enjoyed an active retirement together, residing in several locations in New England before returning to Muncie IN, where they lived at the time of his passing. He is survived by his wife Lee, his daughter Amy Sklar (Stuart) and son Neal Wilson (Nancy Witters); grandchildren Mitch, Nina, Leo and Benjamin. A private interment will follow.
