Deborah Ann Hurst, 69, passed away on May 19, 2025, at IU Health Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis, Indiana.  Debbie was born on September 30, 1955, the daughter of Herschel and Lois (Sturwold) Johnson, in Brookville, Indiana.

Following graduation from Muncie Southside High, Debbie worked in the Muncie community, most recently at Brickyard Health Care in the dietary department.  Debbie would go on to marry her best friend of over 50 years, Robert Hurst, celebrating 25 years in marriage. 

Debbie and Robert shared many wonderful memories over the years, spending free time camping and making friends.  Anyone and everyone were welcome in their home, and even though they only had two children, the had a multitude of “bonus children” from their neighborhood and their children’s friends.  She was affectionately known as the “Matriarch of the south side of Muncie.”

Debbie loved to cook, play solitaire, and spend time with family, no one ever left her house hungry.  She loved caring for her animals, especially her dogs, Lucy and Kita.  What brought Debbie the most joy was her family, especially her grandchildren.  There was a strong loving bond with grandma that will never be forgotten.  In the words of her daughter, she will be greatly missed, as she was always there for anyone, no matter the reason.

Debbie is survived by the love of her life, husband, Robert Hurst, daughter, Amanda Stacy (Jason), son, Jason Johnson (Stacy), grandchildren, Danielle, Isaac (Kylie), Cameron, Jayden, Riley, Colton, Andrew, Peyton, Abby, Josie and Zoey, and a very special great-grandson, Isaac Jr.  In addition, she leaves behind one sister and three brothers, as well as countless friends and her fur babies, Lucy and Kita.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Dan Johnson.

There will be a graveside service at Beech Grove Cemetery, 1400 W. Kilgore, Muncie, Indiana, on Tuesday May 27, 2025, at 1:00 PM.
