Diane E. Mounger Obituary

It is with heavy hearts that we say goodbye to our beloved Diane, who passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, June 24, 2025.  She was born in Muncie, Indiana, on September 2, 1967 the daughter of James and Ida (Blankenship) Mounger.  Diane lived a life that was anything but ordinary.

She was a firecracker, a truth-teller, and a soul who lived without filters, because as she saw it, honesty was her superpower.  Diane was born with special needs and an open heart.  She never shied away from telling it like it was, often hilariously, and nearly always unfiltered.  That was just Diane.

She never held back her affection, always making sure to get a hug before you left.  She adored music, especially her favorite singer, Selena.  She proudly owned every one of her CD’s.

Diane leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and authenticity.  She will be forever missed by all who knew her, especially for her sparkle, her stubborn streak, her brutal honesty, and her big, beautiful heart.

She is survived by her father, James Mounger; her son, Adam Smith; her son’s father, Wayne Smith; and her cherished grandson, Dwight Smith, whom she lovingly called her “Jellybean,” four sisters, Wanda Hitt (Michael) of Muncie, Cindy Mounger, of Marion, Rita Mounger, of Muncie, and Debbie Bunton (Randy) of Muncie.  In addition, she leaves behind her beloved uncles and aunts, Edna Sparks, Muncie, Sarah Monroe (Robert), Dunedin, Florida, Flora Davisson (Gary), Huntington, Ellen Jackson, Knoxville, Tennessee, Thelma Stipes, Corryton, Tennessee, and Charles Fyffe, Yorktown; as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Ida (Blankenship) Mounger (2016), her sister and close companion, Shirley Mounger (2023), whom she missed deeply, a nephew, James Mounger (2015), and her grandparents, Frank and Lona (Bailey) Blankenship, and Richard and Maude (Davis) Mounger.

Diane will be cremated, and a gathering to celebrate her life will be held at a later date.

Rest easy, Diane.  This world was never ready for someone like you, but oh how lucky we were to have you in it!
