Donald Lee Kirby

Donald Lee Kirby, 91, went home to see his precious Lord and Savior on Sunday evening, September 12, 2021, at his residence following an extended illness.  He was born on April 19, 1930 in Muncie, the son of Clarence and Mattie (Sexton) Kirby.

Donald attended Muncie Community Schools and later married the love of his life Phyllis (Chambers) Kirby in the 1950’s and she preceded him in death in 2006.  Mr. Kirby had worked for the City of Muncie in the waste water treatment plant until his retirement in 1999.  He had also worked for Durham Manufacturing for a period of time, prior to being employed by the City of Muncie.  Mr. Kirby was a member of the AFL-CIO union and was honorably discharged from the U.S. Army having served during the Korean War.  Donald was known to be very devout in his faith and loved to study scripture and played games with his family especially Aggravation.

Survivors include one son, David Kirby (Bonnie), Anderson; one daughter, Julie Wells, Albuquerque, New Mexico; one brother, Clarence Kirby, Muncie; one sister, Pat Proctor, Muncie; six grandchildren, Christopher Kirby, Indianapolis, Joseph Kirby (Cassie), Muncie, Joshua and Tiffany Kirby, both of Anderson, Jonathon Kirby, Pendleton and Tabatha, Arkansas; two special nieces, Anna Bright, Muncie and Dixie Ustic (George), Hartford City; several extended family members.

Besides his wife of over 50 years, his beloved Phyllis, he was preceded in death by his parents, one granddaughter, Tammy and seven siblings.

Graveside services will be held on Monday, September 20, 2021, 12:00 P.M.  at Tomlinson Cemetery with Pastor Samuel Wrisley officiating.   Military Honors will be rendered by the Delaware County Honor Guard.    Parson Mortuary Cremation Center is entrusted with these arrangements.

Friends may call at Tomlinson Cemetery from 11A.M. until time of service.
