Donna Ball-Whitcomb passed peacefully at home surrounded by her family Thursday February 18, 2021. Throughout her life and career her faith, strength and kindness were a comfort to everyone she touched. Her backyard swimming pool served as a haven for grandkids, family and friends with swimming lessons, barbecues and lots of singing. We perceived mom to be a real life ‘Giving Tree’ who always tried to ensure other’s needs came first. We will cherish her guidance and wisdom and strive to live life by her example.
Donna was born Friday May 27, 1932 in Solsberry, IN. At age 16 she was offered a music scholarship from IU but instead chose St. John’s School of Nursing in Anderson. Her early nursing career took her to hospitals from New Castle, IN, to Newport, Rhode Island. She retired as Director of Respiratory Therapy from Ball Memorial Hospital in Muncie, IN in 1992.
Donna was preceded in death by Pete Whitcomb (Jan 2020), brother Max Sullivan (Aug 2017), granddaughter Jessica Ball-Domingo (Apr 2008), and David Ball (Aug 1993). She is survived by her children: Sue Ball, Mike Ball (wife Connie), Patrick Ball (wife Sonita), Tim Ball (wife Carol), Patsy Davis (husband Clay), Maryellen South (husband John), Mike Whitcomb (wife Ophelia), sister Judy Bernard, brother Thomas Sullivan (wife Shirley), 18 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren.
A virtual Mass of Christian Burial will be cocelebrated by Rev. David Hellmann and Rev. Robert Williams at St. Lawrence Catholic Church at a later date. Memorials may be sent to St. Vincent De Paul Thrift Shop, 820 East Charles, Muncie, IN.
