Dorothy E. Kemp, 95, passed away early Sunday morning September 6, 2020 at the Indiana University Health Ball Memorial Hospital following a brief illness. She was born on August 7, 1925 in Gaines, Michigan the daughter of James Edward and Lela (Southwell) Field.
Dorothy graduated from Howell High School in Howell, Michigan in 1943 and later married the love of her life, JT Kemp on December 16, 1944 and he preceded her in death on June 29, 1992. Mrs. Kemp had worked as a Secretary for Shields & Smith Attorneys after graduating for a short time prior to her marriage. Several years later, she worked as a time study typist for Howell Motors, Michigan Bell Telephone Co. as a Switchboard Operator and as a Clerk in the Health Dept. in Oscoda, Michigan. Dorothy and JT would winter in Florida with a travel trailer for 4 years until 1983 when they sold their home in Michigan to reside in a handicapped home built in New Port Richey, Florida in Veteran Village. They then would travel back and forth in the summers to visit children and grandchildren in Michigan and Kansas. Dorothy was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star #372 in Howell, Michigan as well as the Disabled American Veterans and the Veteran of Foreign Wars Auxiliaries.
Survivors include,3 children, David Kemp (Barbara), Garry Kemp (Janice) and Cynthia Winchester (Ken); 6 grandchildren, Tammy Blosser, Bobbie Jo Cogar, David Kemp, Kanani Kemp, Krysta Woycehoski and Kayla Neuman; 5 great grandchildren, Dakota Kemp, Hunter Kemp, Jade Cogar, Aria Cogar and Huxley Neuman; 1 great great grandchild, Tony Turner III; 1 sister, Joan Dyce; several nieces and nephews.
Besides her husband of 47 years, JT, and 2 brothers.
Cremation is taking place with burial of cremated remains to be inurned at the Great Lakes National Cemetery in Holly, Michigan at a later date.
