Gale Workman Obituary

Gale B. Workman, 82, left this world on April 15, 2023, at IU Ball Memorial Hospital, in Muncie, Indiana.  He was born May 12, 1940, in Muncie, the son of Dewey and Irene (Parson) Workman.  He attended Muncie Central before starting his forty-two-year career with the city of Muncie, most notably as the Superintendent of the Muncie Animal Shelter.

Gale was known for his love of animals of all kinds, volunteering at the Muncie ARF, after retirement from the animal shelter.  In addition to his love of animals, he enjoyed fishing, and playing horseshoes and was a legend in the local softball leagues.  Of most importance, Gale had a love of the Lord and was active in many churches, most recently, Higher Praise Ministry of Muncie.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife of thirty-one years, Genoma (Champion) Workman, sons; Kenneth Workman, Dewayne Workman, Charles Workman, and Jacob Workman, daughters; Brenda Cook, Diana Hill, and Rebecca Merriam. He is also survived by 14 grandchildren, several great-grandchildren, and countless nieces and nephews. He also leaves behind his furry companion Tilly.

Gale was preceded in death by his parents, twin brother, Dale Workman, brothers Eugene Workman and Edward McNelly, and one sister, Louise Cunningham.

Gale’s favorite bible verse was 2, Timothy, 4:7 “I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.”

A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.  Per his wishes, Gale will be cremated.  In lieu of flowers, and in honor of his love of animals, donations may be made to the Muncie ARF, 1209 W. Riggin Road, Muncie, Indiana 47304.
