Harold Criswell Obituary

Harold “Heavy” Criswell was born September 10th, 1944 in Jamestown, Tennessee to Ernest and Alma Criswell.  Harold was one of six children.  While growing up in Banner Springs, Tennessee, he earned the nickname “Heavy” for being small but strong.

Harold met the love of his life of 56 years, Shirley (Miller) Criswell and the two were married and moved to Muncie in 1966, where they started their family with the birth of their son David Allen Criswell (wife Shelly), and their daughter Melissa Ann (Criswell) Pease (husband Jeff).

Harold worked at Duffy Tool and Stamping for 40 years where he was a group leader.  When he wasn’t busy working hard, he loved to spend time working in his garden, golfing, and fishing.  You could find him at Maplewood Golf Course during his retirement.

Harold loved to spend time with his grandchildren.  He loved teaching them to swim and golf and sharing stories on the back porch.  Harold looked forward to the grandkids sporting events and those Friday night lights at the football games.

Harold was loved by all that knew him.  He was known as a “genuinely good guy.”  He was known for his hard work and willingness to help others.

Harold and his dear wife Shirley never left each other’s side and spent 56 loving years together.

In addition to his wife and daughter, Harold is survived by five grandchildren, Jessica K. (Criswell) Hobbs (Husband Cory), Megan A. Criswell, Ryley A. Pease, Brady J. Pease, Gracie L. Criswell, three great grandchildren, Nora K. Hobbs, Rowan D. Hobbs, and Layne M. Hobbs.  He is also survived by brothers Edward Criswell, Randle Criswell, and sisters, Dean Gunter and Ruth Imberger.  Harold also left behind special family friends Ethan, Dalton and Peyton Evans as well as his constant and faithful companion, his dog Rudy.

He was proceeded in death by his son David Allen Criswell, one granddaughter Mattie J. Criswell, one sister Wilma Jackson and both parents.

The family would like to express their deep gratitude to Hospice Nurse Bonnie for her caring and compassion.
