James Jimmy Carter

June 9, 1931 ~ May 9, 2022 (age 90)

Obituary

James “Jimmy” Carter was born on June 9th 1931 in Wrigley, Kentucky and passed very quickly on May 9th 2022 at a golden age of 90.

James was born into a family of 10 brothers and 1 sister.  His parents, Jesse Carter and Mary (Brown) Carter were successful farmers of the local Kentucky area and also established a well-known general store in Farmers, Kentucky where the family later moved to.

In his teens, James moved to Fairborn, Ohio and later Muncie, Indiana where he called home.  In Muncie, James served 38 years at the local General Motors Chevy Plant where he was a machine operator.

After retirement, he continued on with a 20 year career at American Chevrolet in Muncie, where he held numerous responsibilities ending in Courtesy Van Shuttle Driver.  This position was a perfect match for his outward caring attitude and inward responsibility to help others.

His first passion, however, was to his church.  James helped physically, and financially, build the Church Of God (Cleveland Assembly) on 26th street in Muncie where he was a proud member, served as a leader of the church, and was superintendent for over 20 years.  While at the Church of God his devotion was seen in countless weekly hours of visitation and always supporting, and helping those in need.

Later James, and his wife, joined Sound The Alarm Church, which is now Life Point Church of Muncie.  While at Life Point Church James continued his passion to help others and was the head usher of the local church.

James loved camping, fishing, gardening, and blue grass music.  All that knew him understood his love of Chevy Trucks, which he regularly acquired.  He could not wait for the next model to come out and see how he could pin stripe it, or customize it to make it a “Jimmy” Truck.

He was immediately loved from all that knew him, and he always radiated a caring helpful heart.  During his journey many considered him as a secondary Dad, or a Grandfather. The family appreciates Chad Davis and Tyler Rodgers for supporting him while he was at American Chevrolet.  He thought of you as family.  We would also like to acknowledge Ron Trissel Sr. for his ongoing companionship as a trusted friend within the local neighborhood.

James was preceded in death by his parents, many brothers, and his son JC Carter of Chico, California.

He is survived by his loving wife, of 60 years, Lewellen Carter, Daughter Debi (Ron), Son Robert (Brad), Brother Ancil, Sister Sue, many grandchildren, and several great grandchildren.  He will be also missed by his nephews, nieces and their families.

James “Jimmy” Carter never had an ill word and his family wishes for each of you to take a part of that love and continue to spread it in remembrance of him.
